North Point Sail Racing Association is a sailboat racing club based out of North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor Illinois. We offer a variety of racing options for our members and, for a small fee, a few are open to non-members. After the racing, we plan some type of social event (dock party, BBQ, etc) where you can discuss the days events and get to know your fellow racers.
Wednesday Races: Our Wednesday night buoy races begin early May and finish in September. The races are divided into three separate series: Spring, Summer and Fall. First Gun is 06:30pm.
Saturday Buoy Races: Our Saturday buoy races are once or twice a month and we do two races on the same day. This is a single series for the summer. Saturday racing begins at 11am.
Saturday Distance Races: Once a month, during the racing season, we conduct longer distance races that begin and end at North Point Marina. Unlike the Wednesday and Saturday buoy races, which are only open to members, these are open to all competitors. There is usually a post-race party at the harbor building, which is included in the small race fee required of non-members. Races begin at 10am.
Venetian Night Race: Once a year our harbor hosts a Venetian Night Parade, this is usually accompanied with a carnival like atmosphere and fireworks after the parade. NPSRA has our Venetian Night Mug Race on the same day. This race is open to all for a chance to win the NPRSA Venetian Mug Race.
Destination Races: This year we are trying our first destination race to Racine. We'll race up Saturday, have a post-race party and spend the night in Racine. Then return to North Point on Sunday.
Annual Awards Dinner: The first weekend in November, after the racing season is over, is our annual awards dinner and membership meeting. Join us for this fun evening to close out the year.
